 Our client, a producer and supplier of fresh produce with Head Offices in Paarl, is looking for an experienced, hardworking and passionate Packhouse Manager for their Packing facility in Paarl.

Minimum Requirements: *Grade 12 Senior Certificate *Diploma in Agriculture will be beneficial

*5-7 years’ work experience in a similar role*Experience in managing and administering audits such as Global Gap, Export Audits, Hygiene, Health and Safety and Ethical audits is a requirement.      *Excellent Human Resources & Pack house Management skills

* Must have excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills * Must have good numerical and planning skills *Must be self-disciplined, a team-player, honest and of high integrity*Must be willing to work overtime and alternative weekends

Duties and responsibilities:  *Management of the pack house operations including all pack house staff and operations *Sound leadership and direction in the pack house ensuring quality product output, accuracy and consistency in pack house processes and documentation *Ensuring high standards of health and safety practices *Management of Audits, technical requirements & administration *Customer services *Production *Human resource management *Maintenance of machines, vehicles and buildings

We are looking for a young, organized and detail-orientated Assistant Pack house Manager for our client’s Berry-farm close to Hermanus. This position will assist in running a productive packhouse operation on the farm.

 

The successful candidate will report to the Harvest Operations Manager of the company.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Management of productivity, labour and quality processes in the pack house
  • Sound leadership and direction in the pack house ensuring quality product output, accuracy and consistency in pack house processes and          
  • Building and implementing best practice policies and principles.
  • Develop and train a team of pack house staff.
  • Ensuring high standards of health and safety practices.
  • Ensuring compliance to all necessary industry quality assurance standards.
  • Meeting all specifications as required by both local and export customers

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Tertiary qualification,
  • Must have excellent management experience.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Must have good numerical and planning skills.
  • Must be self-disciplined, a team player, honest and of high integrity.
  • Must be able to work under minimum supervision while meeting the set targets & deadlines.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends
  • Experience in HACCP, BRC, and or other quality system would be            
  • Experience in managing soft fruit (labour intensive) pack houses would be

Requirements:

  • Full Management of the kitchen and the staff.
  • Accurate food, menu development and menu costing and portion control of all meals served to ensure that food cost remain at an acceptable level.
  • Cost and stock control including receiving, checking, quality control and correct storage of stock as required.
  • Ensuring that all tasks are carried out within the schedules prescribed.
  • Accurate and efficient co-ordination and execution of food at a high standard.
  • The compilation and co-ordination of staff rosters, and training and monitoring of new kitchen and serving staff.
  • Budgeting setting and financial planning for profitability with Management.
  • The maintenance of neat, clean and hygienic conditions, in and around the general workspace and all facilities.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with all HACCP regulations and recommendations

Skills and Experience required:

  • 5 years working experience in a similar position
  • Formal culinary qualification required
  • Strong knowledge of service industry
  • Excellent communication and management skills essential
  • Thorough understanding of a clean kitchen and work area
  • Excellent knowledge of planning menus, establishing size of food portions, estimating food requirements, wastage, stock rotation and costs
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Computer literate especially in Excel
  • Team player and leadership qualities

This position will be verifying the accuracy of invoices.  Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions to ensure accurate payments are made and received.

 

The position will report to the Financial Director of the company.
